Olympians Advance Several to Regional at Brown County Sectional

Eagle Park — The Columbus East boys and girls cross-country teams turned in determined efforts at Saturday’s Brown County Sectional, with several Olympians earning individual trips to next weekend’s Evansville Regional. The East boys placed seventh overall with 153 points. Norman Dickson led the way with an 11th-place finish in 16:42.1, securing a regional berth. He’ll be joined by teammates Elijah Clore (23rd, 17:24.7) and Riley Wilson (33rd, 18:03.8), who also advanced individually. Rounding out the East lineup were Lorren Westerfeld (43rd, 18:28.2), Maddox Hult (45th, 18:30.6), Cullen Fullerton (60th, 19:42.1), and Beckett Mocas (63rd, 20:15.4). In the team standings, Columbus North claimed the sectional title with 16 points, followed by Seymour (128), Greensburg (131), Jennings County (137), and Hauser (138) as the other regional qualifiers. Brown County finished sixth with 148, just ahead of East’s seventh-place 153. On the girls side, Columbus East finished eighth with 200 points, but four runners advanced to regional competition. Ainslee Shaw led the Olympians with a 24th-place finish in 21:49.3, while Elizabeth Sztaba (35th, 23:11.0), Abby Collins (42nd, 23:56.6), and Brooke Newell (48th, 24:57.4) also qualified. Additional East finishers were Trinity Burns (51st, 25:10.8), Abigail Morales-Pascual (56th, 25:44.8), and Daphne May (59th, 26:20.1). Team results saw Columbus North take the girls title with 38 points, followed by Edgewood (69), Seymour (99), Jennings County (107), and Greensburg (112) in the top five. Brown County placed seventh with 180, just ahead of East. Both Columbus East squads will return to Eagle Park on October 25 for the Evansville Regional, where they’ll look to continue their postseason campaigns.
