Rough Night in Bloomington: Olympians Shut Out by Cougars

Columbus East’s trip to Bloomington North on Friday night turned into a long one, as the Olympians couldn’t get much going on either side of the ball in a 42-0 loss to the Cougars. Injuries and inconsistency hurt East from the opening kick. After a quick three-and-out, Bloomington North went straight to work on the ground and scored early. The Olympians showed some spark on their next series, moving the chains a couple of times and reaching deep into Cougar territory before the drive stalled. From there, momentum never swung back in East’s favor. Bloomington North added two more touchdowns before halftime, including a defensive score off an interception, to take firm control of the game. The second half brought more of the same — a relentless Cougar rushing attack and a running clock that sealed East’s fate. JD Rotert paced the Olympians with 35 yards on 14 carries, while quarterback Kyson Villarreal finished with 21 passing yards. Dallas Dykstra and Paxton Thompson combined for East’s receiving yards in limited opportunities. It was a night where nothing seemed to click, but the Olympians will get a chance to reset as they return to Hoosier Hills Conference action next week. They’ll travel to Jeffersonville on Friday before closing the regular season at home against Bedford North Lawrence on October 17.
