Bloomington South H.S. — The Columbus East boys soccer team wrapped up its regular season Monday night on the road against Class 3A No. 7 Bloomington South, pushing the Panthers to the limit before falling 2-1. Bloomington South jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Olympians answered before the break when Eduardo Aranda Michel found the back of the net off a setup from David Sylva. That cut the deficit in half, and East kept the pressure on throughout the second half. Despite several scoring chances, the Olympians couldn’t find the equalizer, but Coach Sam LaVelle saw plenty of encouraging signs. “We fought and had a lot of opportunities and held off one of the best teams in the state in the 2nd half,” LaVelle said. “Lots of positives going into sectionals.” With the regular season now complete, Columbus East turns its attention to the postseason. The Olympians will face Center Grove in the second match of the Class 3A sectional at Whiteland High School on Oct. 7. Match start time: Approx ~ 8 p.m.
