The Hoosier Hills Conference cross-country championships are set for Saturday, October 4, at Floyd Central High School High School. The meet will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the girls’ 5,000-meter race, followed by the boys’ 5,000-meter race at 9:45 a.m. An awards ceremony will take place at the finish line immediately following the competition. Each school is allowed up to 12 entries, with the top five runners scoring toward the team total. In the event of a tie, the sixth runner’s finish will serve as the tiebreaker. Conference rules allow for seven individual ribbons to the championship team, with the winning coach receiving a team plaque. The runner-up team will also take home ribbons. Individually, the top seven finishers will be named All-Conference and receive plaques, while places eight through fourteen will earn honorable mention. Spectators may attend for a $5 gate fee. Floyd Central will provide a certified athletic trainer on site, and commemorative meet shirts will be available for purchase—limited to the first 100 sold. The event serves as the final tune-up for teams before the IHSAA sectional, making it one of the most competitive races of the season as the Olympians look to test themselves against the rest of the HHC field.
