Olympians Edge Panthers in Five-Set Thriller

The Columbus East girls volleyball team came away with a hard-fought Hoosier Hills Conference victory Tuesday night in North Vernon, outlasting Jennings County in a five-set battle. The Olympians secured the win 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 16-14 to remain unbeaten in league play. East showed balance across the board. Payten Osborn directed the offense with 22 assists and added a pair of aces, while Addy Dean powered down 13 kills at the net. Anika Jenkins was a defensive force with nine blocks, and libero Krea Martin turned in an impressive 32 digs. The Olympians also received key contributions from several others. Izzy Rice added 10 kills, and Chloe Gill provided both offense and defense with nine kills and 20 digs. Kenlee Gault handed out 16 assists, Lilah Klei chipped in six blocks and two aces, and Kadence Miller closed the night with two aces and 13 digs. Dean and Cadence Smith also protected the net with four blocks apiece. The Olympians are back at it tonight, Wednesday, September 3rd, when they head to Jeffersonville, IN to battle with another Hoosier Hills conference opponent, the Jeffersonville Red Devils.
