The Columbus East boys tennis team went on the road Tuesday to face crosstown rival Columbus North, falling 4-1 in the rivalry matchup. The Olympians’ lone victory came at No. 3 singles, where freshman Landon Redelman battled through a long, hard-fought match to secure a straight-sets win. Redelman outlasted his opponent 6-3, 7-6 (5), giving East a point on the scoreboard and snapping a long drought of individual wins against the Bull Dogs. Elsewhere, the Olympians struggled to find their rhythm against a strong North lineup. Trevor Ernst fell at No. 1 singles, while fellow freshman Kai Bergmann came up short at No. 2 singles. In doubles play, the pairings of Micah Wettschurack and Michael Reed at No. 1 doubles and Cooper Harry and Carson Hartsook at No. 2 doubles both dropped their matches. The season continues to see progress from its young roster, particularly with underclassmen stepping into key roles. The Olympians will look to build on Redelman’s performance as they continue play on Thursday when they welcome the Madison Cubs on August 28th. Match time: 5 p.m.
