Olympians Earn First Win at Bishop Chatard Invitational

The Columbus East volleyball team walked away from Saturday’s Bishop Chatard Invitational with a milestone, securing their first victory of the season while going 1-2 on the day in Indianapolis. The Olympians opened with a setback against Terre Haute South, falling 25-13, 25-20. They quickly bounced back, however, with a strong performance to defeat Union County 25-16, 25-15 before closing out the day with a hard-fought loss to host Bishop Chatard, 25-13, 25-21. Several players stepped up for East throughout the tournament. Setter Payten Osborn directed the offense with 26 assists, while also adding 11 aces and 12 digs. Anika Jenkins powered the front line with 21 kills and three blocks, and Lilah Klei contributed both offensively and defensively with 11 kills and five blocks. On the defensive side, Krea Martin anchored the back row with 25 digs and chipped in three aces. Kenlee Gault provided 18 assists, while Chloe Gill joined Jenkins with three blocks at the net. The tournament results move the Olympians to 1-4 overall as they continue building momentum in the early part of the season. The O's are back on the court Tuesday night when they host HHC rival, the Seymour Owls in the Orange Pit. JV match time is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity match to follow.
