The Columbus East girls volleyball team hosted Franklin on Thursday night in the Orange Pit, squaring off against a Grizzly Cubs squad led by standout senior and Ohio University commit, Rose Mahin. Despite a determined effort, the Olympians fell in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 16-25, 25-17. Franklin built early leads in the opening sets, but East showed resilience with strong serving runs that trimmed the margins late. The third set brought the biggest spark for the Olympians, as they seized momentum midway through and closed it out to extend the match. In the fourth, Franklin regained control behind a long service run from Mahin and never looked back to finish off the win. Several Olympians turned in solid performances across the board. Anika Jenkins contributed both offensively and defensively at the net, while Addy Dean added timely kills and blocks. Kadence Miller and Krea Martin provided a boost in the back row and at the service line, and setters Payten Osborn and Shelby Sharp kept the offense moving with steady ball distribution. With two matches now under their belt, the Olympians showed noticeable strides from their season opener earlier in the week. They’ll return to action Saturday at the Bishop Chatard Invitational, looking to continue their progress against strong competition.
