The Columbus East boys soccer team battled through a tough test on the road Thursday night, earning a 1-0 victory at Lawrenceburg. The Olympians (2-0) broke the scoreless tie in the second half when Farid Garcia Renteria converted a penalty kick for the lone goal of the match. Behind him, goalkeeper Ryder Meek stood strong, collecting the shutout to secure the win. Coach Sam LaVelle noted the Tigers’ intensity made for a valuable early-season challenge, and his squad responded well by matching the physical play and staying composed. In the JV contest, East rolled to a 5-0 win with goals coming from Miguel Ferrer (2), Jordan Hofelich, Adam Arnholt, and Robby Orgass.
