The Columbus East girls soccer team dropped its first match of the season Monday evening, falling 6-0 to Franklin Community at the Richard Wigh Soccer Complex. The Olympians found themselves defending for much of the night as Franklin kept consistent pressure on goal. East finished with five total shots, one of which was on target. Senior Emma Christie started in goal before moving out into the field, while sophomore Cara Veach stepped in for the remainder of the contest. Veach recorded eight saves against a steady Grizzly Cub attack. The loss brings East’s early-season record to 1-1 following their strong 6-0 victory over Indian Creek in Saturday’s opener. The Olympians will look to bounce back when they travel to Bloomington North on Wednesday evening.
