The Columbus East Olympian freshman football team got their first taste of game action Saturday morning, traveling to Whiteland High School for a preseason scrimmage. The Olympians outscored the Warriors 18-6 in the contest, showing encouraging signs on both sides of the ball. East found the end zone three times, with Miles Broaddus scoring twice and Dane Hoopingarner adding another touchdown. Whiteland’s lone score came late in the scrimmage. While the result doesn’t count in the standings, it was a positive first step for the young Olympians as they continue preparing for the season ahead. Columbus East will officially open the year next Saturday morning, August 23rd at home against Bloomington South. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. at the Fire Pit.
