The Columbus East girls track and field team competed at the 2025 IHSAA Regional Tuesday night at Bloomington North High School, finishing fifth in the team standings with 32 points—just one point behind fourth-place Edgewood. Highlighting the night for the Olympians were sprinter Carsyn Schlehuser and hurdler Kai Scott, both of whom earned state qualifications—the first for Columbus East’s girls team in more than a decade. Schlehuser turned in a pair of clutch performances, placing second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.72 seconds and taking third in the 200 meters at 26.60 seconds, securing a spot at the IHSAA State Finals in both events. She had advanced from the preliminaries earlier in the evening with times of 13.01 and 27.20, respectively. Scott, meanwhile, earned her state berth with a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking 47.18 seconds in a competitive field. Other key scorers for the Olympians included junior Sophie Glick, who placed sixth in the 400 meters (1:02.43), and senior Grace McMahan, who threw 112 feet, 9 inches to finish seventh in the discus. Columbus East also earned points in both sprint relays. The 4x100-meter team of Kai Scott, Carsyn Schlehuser, Kyleigh Dover, and Claire Behnke placed seventh in 51.25 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Sophie Glick, Meg Going, Claire Behnke, and Kai Scott took fourth with a strong time of 4:15.05. With standout performances across the board, the Olympians capped off their postseason with a top-five regional finish and multiple state qualifiers—an impressive step forward for the program. The IHSAA Girls State Finals are set for next weekend, where Schlehuser and Scott will represent Columbus East on the state’s biggest stage.
