Olympian Unified Track and Field Team Shines at Seymour Sectional

The Columbus East Unified Track and Field team capped off a successful season with strong performances at the IHSAA Unified Track and Field Sectional on May 24 at Seymour High School. The Olympians delivered a spirited effort, highlighted by several athletes placing in their events and contributing valuable points to the team total. In the 100 Meter Dash, Bohdan Stein clocked a 25.58 to earn 3 points, while Mya Blanton impressed with a 16.79, securing 5 points for East. In the 400 Meter Dash, the Olympians were led by Mayleigh Hardwick, who placed second in her heat with a time of 1:58.56, earning 8 points. Anna Myers added 4 points with a 1:25.92, and Michael Larsen also scored 2 points with a 1:28.00 effort. The Olympians’ 4x100 Relay team—comprised of John Tembo, Marleigh Stidham, Ethan Kessler, and Michael Larsen—ran a 1:17.17 to place fifth in their heat, earning 4 points. In the field events, Columbus East found further success: In Shot Put, Adam Stott threw 12-04.50 to earn 5 points, while Lydia Barrentine delivered an impressive 18-09.00 for 8 points. John Tembo returned to the ring to toss 18-02.00, picking up an additional 5 points. Although the Olympians finished 11th overall in team scoring, the competition served as a celebration of inclusion, teamwork, and perseverance—values that define Unified Sports.
