The Columbus East baseball team delivered an explosive performance on Friday night, defeating Edgewood 11-1 in five innings in a non-conference road matchup. J.D. Rotert set the tone early and often, leading the way both on the mound and at the plate. Rotert went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while also tossing a complete game one-hitter. He struck out three, walked five, and allowed just one earned run over five innings of work. The Olympians jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first, but it was a 10-run outburst in the bottom of the third that put the game firmly out of reach. Columbus East sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning, capitalizing on five hits, two walks, and two Edgewood errors. Logan Warren was a major force in the middle of the East lineup, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and a team-high four RBIs. Eli Tindell added two hits and three RBIs, while Aiden Bumbalough also chipped in two hits and two runs batted in. The Olympians were sharp defensively, playing error-free baseball and turning in solid plays across the diamond. Jackson Watkins and Drew Rotert combined for three assists, and Bige Asher recorded seven putouts. With the win, Columbus East will look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season. The Olympians return to action early next week with a Hoosier Hills Conference battle at Bedford North-Lawrence on Monday, May 26th- with no school in session, the game will start at 3 p.m. Flip The Page - Regular season to postseason: Monday will mark the end of the regular season for the Olympians.
