The Columbus East girls tennis team wrapped up its 2025 season with a spirited effort in the IHSAA Sectional at Columbus North, taking on Edinburgh in a competitive semifinal match. Although the Olympians came up short in the team result, they played hard across the lineup. East captured two of the five matches, with strong performances at the top of the singles lineup. O's Lauren Degner dominated at No. 1 singles, earning a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win to extend her season into the individual state tournament. Bruna Carreira also delivered a commanding performance at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2. The Lancers, whom the Olympians had defeated in the regular season, secured the team victory by taking the remaining three matches. In a tightly contested battle at No. 2 doubles, Stefani Christopher and Luci Morales came close, falling just short in a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Edinburgh also prevailed in a close match at No. 3 singles and picked up a straight-set win at No. 1 doubles. Despite a season marked by growing pains, the Olympians showed heart and improvement throughout the spring. Many players embraced the sport for the first time in their high school careers, learning and competing with pride. With Degner’s season continuing in the individual bracket, Columbus East will be represented in postseason play a little while longer. Thank you seniors for your efforts this season!
