The Columbus East baseball team returned to Olympian Field on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup against Bloomington North but came up short in a 9-1 loss to the visiting Cougars. After a scoreless first inning, Bloomington North struck for three runs in the second and never looked back, tacking on additional runs in the third, fourth, and seventh innings. The Cougars totaled 11 hits on the night, capitalizing on timely offense and steady defense to secure the victory. Columbus East struggled to find offensive momentum, recording just four baserunners and finishing without a hit. The Olympians’ lone run came in the sixth inning, thanks to a combination of walks and an error. O's Drew Rotert reached base twice and drew two of East’s nine total walks. Paxton Thompson and Aiden Bumbalough also showed patience at the plate, each reaching base three times on walks. Rotert also took the mound for the Olympians and pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs across seven innings while striking out three. Despite a solid performance, four Columbus East errors contributed to the Cougars’ big innings. The Olympians will look to bounce back as they prepare for their next matchup as they head to Edgewood High School on Friday night (5/23) to face the Mustangs. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
