Schlehuser Leads Olympians to Fourth-Place Finish at IHSAA Girls Track Sectional

The Columbus East girls track and field team turned in a strong all-around performance Tuesday night at the IHSAA Sectional hosted by Columbus North High School, placing fourth overall with 72 points. Senior sprinter Carsyn Schlehuser led the Olympians with a standout performance, capturing a sectional title in the 200 meters and adding a third-place finish in the 100 meters. Schlehuser clocked 26.54 to win the 200 and ran 12.86 in the 100 meters final after advancing with a 12.85 in prelims. She also anchored the 4x100 relay, teaming with Kyleigh Dover, Claire Behnke, and Kai Scott for a **second-place finish in 51.31. Other top scorers for Columbus East included: Sophie Glick – 3rd in the 400 meters (1:04.02) and 7th in high jump (4'8") Kai Scott – 3rd in the 300 hurdles (48.95) and part of the second-place 4x400 relay Ainsley Shaw – 6th in both the 100 hurdles (17.17) and 300 hurdles (51.99) Madison Swartzentruber – 6th in the 800 meters (2:37.51) Meg Going – 7th in the 800 (2:39.10) and ran a leg of the 4x400 Makenna Sutton – 8th in the 400 (1:08.06) Sophia Gallion – 5th in the shot put (32'10") Grace McMahan – 3rd in the discus (107'8") The 4x400 relay of Glick, Going, Behnke, and Scott placed second with a time of 4:20.40, while the 4x800 team of Daphne May, Amelia Fay, Kalia Scott, and Abigail Collins placed 7th (12:02.43). Additional competitors included Kyleigh Dover (9th in 100 prelims and 17th in long jump), Emma Christie (19th in long jump), Amelia Fay (17th in the 1600), and Trinity Burns (15th in the 3200).
