Brooks Leads East at Hoosier Hills Conference Track & Field Meet

JEFFERSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL — The Columbus East boys track and field team turned in a number of solid performances Thursday night at the Hoosier Hills Conference Championship, finishing 7th in the team standings with 28 points. Senior Jared Brooks led the way for the Olympians in the field events, delivering one of the top performances of the night. Brooks placed second in the discus with a throw of 148’0” and added a third-place finish in the shot put at 47’9.5”, scoring a combined 14 points. Sophomore Norman Dickson added a 6th-place finish in the 3200 meters, clocking in at 10:27.42. In the sprints, junior Blake Moss reached the finals in the 100 meters and placed 6th with a time of 11.48 seconds. He was joined in the event by junior Brody Miller, who ran 11.77 in the finals. Senior Austin Menefee contributed across multiple events, placing 7th in the 200 meters (23.23) and anchoring the 4x800 relay team to a 4th-place finish in 8:52.62 alongside Maddox Hult, Elijah Clore, and Jackson Brookes. Sophomore Henry Eickmeyer continued to gain ground in the hurdles, placing 7th in the 300-meter hurdles (44.02) and qualifying for the finals in the 110 hurdles as well. Columbus East picked up more points in the relays and jumps. The 4x100 team of Miller, Traxce Mulcahy, Moss, and Menefee placed 6th in 45.25, while sophomore Ryder Meek cleared 5’10” in the high jump to finish 7th. Junior Evan Simo rounded out the scoring with a 7th-place throw of 117’5” in the discus.
