The Columbus East boys volleyball team made a powerful statement Saturday afternoon in the Orange Pit, going a perfect 3-0 to claim the championship of their own Round Robin Tournament. The Olympians didn’t drop a single set on the day, notching convincing wins over Bloomington South, Greenwood, and Jennings County. The tournament win was especially meaningful considering one of the victories came against Greenwood—a team that had defeated East in three sets two weeks prior. This time around, the rematch told a different story. The Olympians controlled the pace from the opening serve, cruising to a 25-13, 25-12 sweep over the Woodmen in their second match of the day. East opened the afternoon with a dominant performance against Bloomington South, winning 25-15, 25-8. They closed the tournament with a 25-12, 25-20 victory over Jennings County, securing an undefeated run and first-place honors. Saturday also marked a major individual milestone for senior Alex Duncan, who recorded his 500th assist of the season during the final match. Duncan finished the day with 50 assists, 19 kills, eight blocks, and 10 digs across the three matches—an all-around performance that highlighted his leadership and skill. The Olympians were back to full strength for the tournament after missing key players in the earlier loss to Greenwood. Sophomore Trevor Ernst returned to his libero position and tallied 20 digs and an ace on the day. His brother, Tyler Ernst, chipped in with eight kills and solid back-row play. Defensively, Ian Scholl led the team with 27 digs and also added 19 kills. Jack Smith provided a spark from the service line with a team-high four aces. Up front, Alex Wenzler recorded five blocks, Justin Lopez added four, and Reid Coers and Keaton Stephenson each served up an ace. With a complete team effort and a bit of redemption in hand, the Olympians delivered one of their strongest outings of the season—sweeping their way to a well-earned tournament title in front of the home crowd. The O's end their regular season on a high note and look forward to IHSAA Sectional play when they travel to Franklin Community High School on Thursday, May 15th when they face the Whiteland Warriors starting at 8 p.m. Good luck O's!
