GREENSBURG HIGH SCHOOL — The Columbus East baseball team came out swinging on Wednesday night, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, but the early momentum quickly faded as the Olympians fell 12-4 in a non-conference road matchup. East capitalized on a combination of walks, hit batters, and a double by senior Logan Warren to jump ahead early. AJ Tindell and Emmitt Harden each added singles in the game, providing three total hits for the Olympians. After the first-inning outburst, however, the East bats were held quiet for the rest of the night. The team was unable to score again, despite a few scattered base runners throughout the contest. In total, East left several men on base and could not get the timely hit. Defensively, the Olympians struggled to keep things clean, committing five errors that contributed to unearned runs. The pitching staff, led by junior Ryker Stott, battled through six innings. Stott pitched the first two frames, allowing five earned runs on six hits. Freshman Landyn Jewell and sophomore Aiden Bumbalough came on in relief, combining for four innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits. Despite the loss, East showed resilience in the early innings and continued effort from a young roster. The Olympians will aim to bounce back as they face Columbus North Friday night at Columbus East. First pitch: 7 p.m.
