Columbus East boys volleyball celebrated their senior athletes Tuesday night in The Orange Pit, but visiting Madison had other plans, handing the Olympians a 3-1 defeat. The Cubs' potent offense proved a challenge for East throughout the match. The sets finished with scores of 25-22 for Madison, 22-25 for East, followed by Madison wins of 25-17 and 25-14. This match held particular significance as it honored the first senior class to play boys volleyball at Columbus East since the sport was sanctioned by the IHSAA last year. Despite the loss, which brings their record to 10-15, the Olympians can draw valuable experience from the contest as they prepare for the upcoming sectional tournament next week. The match against a strong Madison squad offered insights and lessons that can help shape their focus for the postseason. The Final Stretch: The O's have two more regular season matches before IHSAA Sectional play. The O's travel to Warren Central Thursday, May 8th and then round out the regular season as they host a Round Robin Tournament on Saturday in the Orange Pit. The Round Robin features: Columbus East, Jennings County High School, Bloomington South High School, and Greenwood Community High School. The Olympians open Round One on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. verses Bloomington South, Round Two vs. Greenwood, and Round Three vs. Jennings County. Good luck O's!
