Columbus East Unified Track Team Delivers Strong Showing Against Franklin Central

The Columbus East Unified Track team turned in a strong all-around performance on May 5 during their meet against Franklin Central, showcasing determination, sportsmanship, and standout individual efforts across multiple events. In the 100-meter dash, Anthony Donnell led the Olympians with an impressive second-place finish in Heat 1, clocking a time of 13.62 seconds. Teammates Brian Davis and Gavin Day also contributed with solid efforts, placing third in their respective heats. East’s relay team continued the momentum in the 4x100 relay, taking second place with a time of 1:06.91. The field events saw East athletes excel, particularly in the shot put and long jump. Kelsey Cooley threw a personal-best 24 feet, 3 inches to take third overall in shot put. East’s long jumpers shined as well — Anthony Donnell once again stood out, earning second place with a leap of 13 feet, 10 inches, while teammates Benjamin Nagel and Gavin Day both placed in the top four. In the mixed 400-meter and 4x100-meter relay events, the Olympians demonstrated depth and teamwork. East finished third overall in the 400-meter dash thanks to Benjamin Nagel’s 1:14.47 effort, while teammates like Haylee Arnold and Sarah Thomas contributed valuable points across events. The meet concluded with a strong sense of team unity and competitive spirit. Although Franklin Central came out ahead in total team points, the Olympians walked away with personal bests, event placements, and another step forward in their Unified Track season. Columbus East continues to build momentum heading into its next meet, with a focus on continued improvement, inclusion, and fun.
