Columbus East Athletes Excel in Head-to-Head Meet with Eagles

BROWN COUNTY H.S. - The Columbus East boys and girls track and field teams put together a strong all-around performance in a away dual meet against the Brown County Eagles, showcasing talent, depth, and several personal records across the board. Boys Recap: Sprint Speed and Distance Depth Shine In the boys’ sprints, **Trace Mulcahy** won the 100 meters in a close finish at 11.98 seconds, just edging out Brown County’s Ethan Williams. The Olympians took five of the top six places in that race, led by **Tony Cowan** (3rd), **Isaac Fields** (4th), and **Christian Austin** (5th). Fields came back strong to win the 200 meters (24.54), with teammates **Kairon Young** and **Deonte Study** also clocking personal bests. Study had a big day, also claiming first in the 400 meters at 55.91 and anchoring the 4x400 relay team—along with **Tony Cowan**, **Brad Witsey**, and **Cam Herron**—to a narrow runner-up finish in a tightly contested race (3:50.47). In distance events, the Olympians swept the 1600 and 3200 meters. **Norman Dickson** claimed both races in commanding fashion, running 4:47.27 in the 1600 and 11:07.43 in the 3200. **Elijah Clore**, **Jackson Brookes**, and **Lorren Westerfeld** followed closely behind in both events, demonstrating East’s strength in long-distance depth. **Henry Eickmeyer** delivered a double win in the hurdles, taking the 110m (18.95) and setting a personal record in the 300m (46.30). East also dominated the field events. Senior **Jared Brooks** unleashed a personal-best throw of 157-00 in the discus to win, and also captured the shot put with a toss of 43-04. **Ryder Meek** and **Keaton Lawson** both cleared 5-10 to share the high jump title, while **Kairon Young** claimed the long jump at 18-06.50. Girls Recap: Strong Finishes and Rising Stars The girls’ team was led by senior **Madison Swartzentruber**, who won the 400 meters in a personal-best 1:07.43. She was followed closely by freshman **Makenna Sutton**, who also showed promise in the 200 meters. Sophomore **Sophie Glick** placed second in both the 100 and 800 meters, the latter in a personal-best 2:47.52. Junior **Megumi “Meg” Going** also had a strong day, taking second in the 800 (2:37.07 PR) and fifth in the 100. In the distance races, **Amelia Fay** and **Abby Collins** recorded strong times in both the 1600 and 800. **Elizabeth Sztaba** (14:46.20) and **Trinity Burns** (16:53.42) placed second and third in the 3200, each notching personal records. In hurdles, senior **Skyelar Ross** took third in the 100m hurdles (18.41), and in the sprints, freshman **Indee Pellegrino** had top-three finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters. Team Effort Across Events: From top-end performers to developing talent, Columbus East showcased a full team effort with several athletes setting personal or seasonal bests in nearly every event. The meet demonstrated the Olympians’ growing depth and competitiveness as they build momentum heading toward conference and sectional competition.
