The Columbus East Olympian girls tennis team hosted Hoosier Hills Conference rival Bedford North Lawrence in a competitive showdown Monday evening at the Olympians Tennis Complex. Despite strong performances at the top of the singles lineup, East came up just short in a 3-2 defeat. The Olympians earned both of their points in dominant fashion from singles play. At No. 1 singles, Lauren Degner continued her impressive season with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win. Bruna Carreira matched that effort at No. 2 singles, also winning 6-1, 6-0 to give East early momentum. However, the Stars responded by taking the remaining three matches. Lilli Smith battled at No. 3 singles but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-1. In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Saya Hauser and Zoe White dropped a close match 6-2, 6-4, while the No. 2 duo of Stephanie Christopher and Luci Morales were defeated 6-2, 6-0. The Olympians will look to build on their strong play as they host the East Central Trojans tonight(5/6) at the Olympian Tennis Complex. First serve: 5 p.m.
