COLUMBUS EAST — The Columbus East baseball team showed fight Thursday night at “The Cauldron" (Olympian Field), but a pair of early runs proved too much to overcome in a narrow 3-2 defeat. The Olympians plated both of their runs in the third inning, tying the game after falling behind early. Senior Marcus Wilkinson led the offense with a 1-for-2 night and a run scored, while AJ Tindell also added a hit. Logan Warren and Eli Tindell each drove in a run to give East a spark. Sophomore J.D. Rotert was electric on the base paths, swiping five stolen bases. Tindell added one of his own as the Olympians totaled six steals on the night. Junior Ryker Stott got the start on the mound, working the first inning and allowing one earned run on one hit while striking out one. Senior Drew Rotert followed with four solid innings of work, holding the visitors to one unearned run on a single hit and four walks. Freshman Landyn Jewell pitched the final two frames, retiring all six batters he faced and striking out two in a strong showing. Despite being held to just two hits, the Olympians made the most of their opportunities but left eight runners stranded. Columbus East will look to regroup as they head to Jasper, IN this Saturday, April 26th to play in the always tough Jasper Invitational.
