Good Friday evening at Olympian Field saw the Columbus East varsity baseball team leverage great plate discipline and opportunistic baserunning to secure an 11–3 non‑conference victory over the Greenwood Woodmen. Despite collecting just four hits, the Olympians drew 12 walks, absorbed five hit‑by‑pitches and capitalized on two passed balls and a wild pitch to turn scant offense into a decisive win. Patient at the Plate Columbus East managed only four hits yet drew a staggering 17 free passes. The result was nine runs driven in by six different hitters, as East manufactured offense without relying on extra‑base power. Junior right‑hander Kaden Arnholt closed out the final two frames, allowing a lone run on two hits and striking out one, as the bullpen combined for a tidy 2.00 team ERA over seven innings. Pitching Line (Columbus East) J.D. Four different runners stole a bag—Rotert, Jewell, Paxton Thompson and Arnholt—stretching Greenwood’s defense and forcing errant throws. Defensively, Columbus East handled 29 chances, committing three miscues but turning heads with several key outs that stemmed Greenwood rallies. What’s Next for the Olympians The win snaps a three‑game skid and moves Columbus East to 5–5 on the season. They’ll look to build on Friday’s balanced effort—steady arms, small‑ball prowess and aggressive baserunning—when play resumes this coming Tuesday when they host the Dragons of Silver Creek at Olympian Field. For a squad that can manufacture runs without the long ball, Friday’s performance delivered both confidence and a blueprint for success in tight matchups.
