In a thrilling Hoosier Hills Conference matchup at Jennings County, the Columbus East track & field teams came away with a clean sweep Thursday night—thanks to a dramatic finish on the girls' side and a dominant all-around effort from the boys. Girls Seal the Win in Style The East girls delivered a clutch performance in the meet’s final event, the 4x400-meter relay, to edge past the host Panthers 67-64. The winning relay squad clocked a 4:35.64 to close out the night with authority and complete the team’s come-from-behind victory. Individual standouts included Kyleigh Dover, who leaped to victory in the long jump (14-5), and Grace McMahon, who powered her way to the top spot in the shot put (30-4). Kendall Chapple added a win in the discus (90-8), while Ainsley Shaw claimed the 100-meter hurdles title in 17.60 seconds. On the track, Carsyn Schlehuser sprinted to a win in the 100 meters (13.13), and Madison Swartzentruber controlled the pace in the 800 (2:44.51). The Olympians also picked up a win in the 4x100 relay with a time of 52.57. Boys Roll Behind Brooks, Relay Sweep The Columbus East boys were in control from the jump, cruising to a 76-56 team win over Jennings County. Jared Brooks led the charge with dominant victories in both the shot put (43-7) and discus (142-4), establishing himself as the top thrower of the night. In the field, Keaton Lawson soared to a win in the high jump (6-0), and Zach Foster captured the long jump (17-8). Hurdle events belonged to the Olympians with Isaac Fields taking the 110s (18.74) and Henry Eickmeyer grabbing the 300s (47.06). Austin Menefee put down a strong sprint in the 200 meters to win in 23.29 seconds. East flexed its relay strength by winning both the 4x100 (46.22) and 4x400 (3:41.09), capping a well-rounded team effort.
