The Columbus East baseball team made the trip to Madison on Wednesday night, but couldn’t keep pace with the Cubs in an 8-1 non-conference loss. The Olympians struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Madison answered quickly and broke the game open late with a six-run sixth inning. Columbus East managed just two hits in the contest while committing five errors in the field. Junior Logan Warren and junior Kaden Arnholt each collected a hit for East, while sophomore J.D. Rotert showcased aggressiveness on the basepaths with three stolen bases. Senior Eli Tindell added another steal and drew a walk, while also driving in the team’s only run with a sacrifice fly. On the mound, junior Ryker Stott turned in a solid relief appearance, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing just two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two. Senior A.J. Tindell and Tindell also saw time on the hill, combining for four strikeouts overall. Despite holding Madison to five hits, defensive miscues proved costly as the Cubs capitalized to score eight runs, including six in a decisive sixth inning. The loss drops Columbus East to 2-4 on the season. The Olympians will look to bounce back in their next outing.
