The Columbus East softball team battled Saturday at the Olympian Softball Complex, splitting a doubleheader against the visiting Greensburg Pirates. After falling 9-4 in the opener, the Olympians (3-1) responded with a dominant 4-0 victory in the afternoon game, powered by a complete-game gem from senior standout Baleigh Fish. In Game 1, Fish made her presence felt at the plate with a towering two-run homer and added a single. Natasha Armstrong contributed a two-RBI single, while Lola Watkins chipped in a base hit. Despite the offensive production, Greensburg scored early and held the Olympians at bay for most of the game to secure the win. The Olympians regrouped in Game 2 behind Fish’s electric performance in the circle. She tossed a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, keeping the Pirates off balance all game. Fish also helped her own cause at the plate with a two-run single. Jacque Boroughs and Watkins added RBI singles to round out the scoring. Watkins had two singles in the second game, while Thaise Jessup doubled. Additional hits came from Bailey Fish, Daisy Logan, Taylor Wessel (double), and Jade Hampton. Columbus East continues to show promise early in the season, with strong pitching and depth throughout the lineup. The Olympians are back in action Monday evening when they travel to northern Bartholomew County to face the Hauser Jets. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Jets sit at 2-1 for the season, losing their opening game to Jennings County 8-1, and winning two tight contest between their conference foe, the Edinburgh Lancers.
