Columbus – April 9, 2025 The Columbus East boys volleyball team seems to have a flair for the dramatic—and the stamina to back it up. For the second straight night, the Olympians opened strong with a first-set win, stumbled in the second, and then dug deep to close out a four-set victory. On Wednesday night, East defended their home court in the Orange Pit with a 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24 triumph over Martinsville. With the win, the Olympians improved to 6-7 on the season, showing poise in crunch time. Senior setter Alex Duncan was the engine that powered East’s offense, racking up 36 assists and delivering three aces. The attack was spread around, with Alex Wenzler leading the way with 11 kills, while Duncan, Tyler Ernst, and Grayson Watters chipped in seven apiece. Defensively, East held firm against a tough Martinsville squad. Justin Lopez controlled the net with six blocks, and Wenzler added three of his own. In the back row, Tyler Ernst led with 15 digs, followed closely by Jack Smith’s 13 and Trevor Ernst’s 11. Smith and Wenzler also fired in two aces each, keeping the Artesians on their heels throughout the match. The victory continues a promising week for the Olympians, who seem to be hitting their stride and looking to continue to improve as the season progresses. They'll look to ride this momentum as they prepare for Franklin Central tonight(4/10). FC sits at 4-2 and is currently ranked #13 via MaxPreps and recently defeated Herron 3 sets to 0.
