The Columbus East boys volleyball team fought through early deficits and late pressure to earn their first home win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Herron 3-1 (26-24, 24-26, 25-21, 25-12) in a non-conference matchup at the Orange Pit. In a rematch of last year’s straight-set loss to the Achaeans, the Olympians (5-7) showed resilience and growth, rallying in key moments to flip the script in front of their home crowd. East overcame a 17-13 and then 21-19 deficit to take the opening set 26-24. Herron (0-3) bounced back in the second set, coming from four points down at set point to win six straight and even the match at one set apiece. In the third, the Achaeans used a five-point run to turn a 19-14 deficit into a 20-19 lead, but East responded with a strong finish to secure the 25-21 win. The Olympians left no doubt in the fourth, starting with a dominant 17-3 run and cruising to a 25-12 victory to close out the match. With the win, Columbus East improves to 5-7 on the season. The team returns to action with home matches against Martinsville on Wednesday @ 6 p.m. and Franklin Central on Thursday @ 7 p.m. Tickets are available online: Thursday: https://public.eventlink.com/tickets?t=119038 Friday: https://public.eventlink.com/tickets?t=119036
