Olympians Surge Past Corydon Central with 11-1 Rout at Home

The Columbus East baseball team put together a complete performance Friday night at Olympian Field, storming past Corydon Central 11-1 behind a balanced offensive attack and a standout outing from sophomore pitcher J.D. Rotert. East jumped out early, scoring in five of the six innings and erupting for seven runs in the fifth. The Olympians pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of five Corydon Central errors to seal their second straight win by a double-digit margin. Rotert Leads the Way: J.D. Rotert continued his impressive season on the mound and at the plate. The sophomore fired six innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out a career-best nine batters. He threw 84 pitches and faced 22 batters with pinpoint control. Rotert also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Offensive Firepower: Eleven different Olympians reached base during the game, with six players recording hits and five scoring at least one run. - Kaden Arnholt (Jr) led the team with a 2-for-3 night, including a double, one run scored, two RBIs, and a stolen base. - Eli Tindell (Sr) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a stolen base. - Bige Asher (Jr) remained perfect at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. - Drew Rotert (Sr) and A. Bumbalough (So) each chipped in with a hit and an RBI, while Reid Koester (So) and Landyn Jewell (Fr)both reached base and added to the eight stolen bases East collected as a team. Locked-Down Defense: Columbus East played error-free defense for the second straight game, posting a team fielding percentage of 1.000. Logan Warren recorded eight putouts at first base, while Watkins, Tindell, and Asher helped shut down Corydon’s attempts to rally. What's Next: The win moves Columbus East to 2-1 on the season. The Olympians will look to extend their win streak when they host Scottsburg on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
