COLUMBUS — On a soggy Thursday night at the Columbus East softball field, the Olympians came out swinging against the visiting Bloomington North Cougars, building an early 14-2 lead through four innings. But just as East looked poised to wrap things up, Mother Nature had other plans. As the top of the fifth inning began, steady rain turned into a downpour and lightning flashed across the sky, sending players and coaches scrambling for shelter. With safety the top priority and storms persisting in the area, officials huddled over weather radar before ultimately deciding to postpone the contest. Per IHSAA rules, because the game did not reach the completion of five full innings, the result is not considered official. As of the time of this post, it is still uncertain whether the game will be resumed and completed at a later date. The early dominance by the Olympians showcased their offensive firepower, but the weather kept the final result just out of reach—for now. Stay tuned for updates on a possible continuation date and more coverage of the Olympians' season ahead.
