Olympian Boys and Girls Shine at Indiana Frosh-Soph State Wrestling Championships

Rising Olympians Shine at Frosh-Soph State Championships The future looks bright for Columbus East wrestling as a talented group of freshmen and sophomores battled at the Indiana Frosh-Soph State Championships this weekend at Southport High School. The Olympians showcased their depth and potential, with several grapplers making deep runs and three standing atop the podium as state champions. Three Champions Crowned Leading the charge for Columbus East were Taylor Engelking (115), Lincoln Cooper (165), and Colin McMahon (175),who each dominated their weight classes to claim 1st place finishes. Engelking was unstoppable, winning four straight matches, including a commanding 13-1 major decision in the finals. Cooper bulldozed his way through the bracket, recording multiple pins and tech falls, before securing the title with a10-0 major decision. McMahon followed suit, earning three quick pins en-route to a hard-fought 4-0 decision in the championship match. Other Notable Performances: Several other Olympians delivered strong performances, proving the depth of Columbus East’s young talent: Clayton Miller (165) - 4th Place Brayden Lee (165) - 8th Place Hank Redman (190) - 3rd Place Each of these wrestlers notched multiple wins, including key pins and major decisions, to secure their top finishes. Valuable Experience Gained: Other Columbus East competitors, including Tienica Dits, Henry Eickmeyer, Wyatt Behnke, Mason Eubanks, Henry McMahon, Adam Dye, and Ethan Gilley, put up tough fights against high-level opponents, gaining experience that will be invaluable for their continued development. With a strong showing at the Frosh-Soph State Championships, the Olympians' younger wrestlers are proving they are ready to carry on the program's tradition of excellence. Expect big things from this group in the coming years as they continue to grow and compete at the highest level. Go Olympians!
