The Columbus East gymnastics team competed in the IHSAA Sectional on Friday night at The Gymnastics Company facility, hosted by Franklin Central High School. The Olympians finished ninth as a team with a score of 92.7 and will not advance to the regional as a unit, but sophomore Bethany Lewis delivered an outstanding performance to secure her spot in the next round. Lewis placed fourth in the all-around competition with a score of 35.925, earning an individual regional berth. She showcased her consistency across all four events, finishing third on the floor (9.15), tying for third on the beam (9.125), and taking fifth on both the vault (8.95) and bars (8.7). The top six individuals in each event and the all-around qualify for the regional tournament, along with any gymnast who meets or exceeds the sixth-place score from the previous state finals. Lewis’ strong showing ensured her advancement and gives her another opportunity to compete on a bigger stage. While the Olympians' season as a team comes to an end, Lewis will carry the Columbus East banner into the regional round, looking to build on her momentum and push for a state qualification. The IHSAA Regional gymnastic meet will take place on Friday, March 7th, once again at The Gymnastics Company, starting at 6:30 pm ET.
