🏆 Honoring a Columbus East Legend! 🏆 On Tuesday, February 25th, Ted Rutan became the first-ever recipient of the Columbus East Distinguished Alumni Award, recognizing his outstanding athletic career and lifelong impact on sports. A three-sport star at Columbus East, Rutan led the Olympians to deep postseason runs in baseball, basketball, and tennis, earning multiple All-State and Academic All-State honors. He continued his success at DePauw University, setting records in both baseball and basketball—achievements that later earned him a place in the DePauw Athletics Hall of Fame. As DePauw coach Rusty Loyd put it, Rutan was “a fierce competitor, a true ambassador of the game, and a mentor to countless athletes.” After his playing days, he remained a dedicated coach and broadcaster, covering everything from local high school sports to international competitions.
