Setting the Stage: Columbus East Gymnasts Prep for Sectionals

As the regular season drew to a close, Columbus East celebrated more than just a high team score—they marked a significant step forward in their journey toward sectional competition. This pivotal meet set a positive tone for the challenges ahead, highlighting the team’s hard work towards improving throughout the season. Against the Seymour Owls, the Olympians delivered an 93.85, narrowly trailing behind Seymour’s 97.8. A standout moment of the evening was the flawless execution on the beam; the gymnasts avoided any falls, a factor that played a key role in bolstering their overall performance. Individual excellence also shone through during the meet. Sophomore Bethany Lewis won the all-around competition with a total score of 35.15, posting remarkable routines across vault, beam, and floor. Meanwhile, Gracie Collier demonstrated her consistency with strong finishes on both the beam and floor, contributing solidly to the team’s final score. Beyond the scores and routines, the night carried special significance off the apparatus. The squad took the opportunity to honor lone senior Sophia Begley during senior night and warmly welcomed back Ava Luedeke as she returned from an injury. It was a great night for the Olympians! Looking ahead, Columbus East is focused on refining new skills and perfecting their routines in preparation for the Franklin Central Sectional. With top teams and standout individuals set to advance to the March 7 Franklin Central Regional, the team is eager to capitalize on their momentum as they push toward to be at their best for Sectional time.
