The Columbus East freshman basketball team faced one of their toughest tests of the season Thursday night but found a way to remain unbeaten. In a hard-fought defensive showdown, the Olympians held off Providence for a 27-23 victory, improving to a stellar 17-0 on the year. From the opening tip, it was clear this game would be a grind. The first quarter saw the most scoring of the night, with East trailing by a single point at the break. The Pioneers were well-prepared for East’s signature pressure defense, keeping the contest tight early on. However, the Olympians made adjustments in the second quarter, switching up their defensive approach and holding Providence to just 11 points the rest of the way. That defensive effort proved crucial as East endured its lowest offensive output of the season. Keatin Roberts was the driving force for the Olympians in the first half, pouring in 17 of the team’s 19 points before the break. Meanwhile, Josiah Kiel anchored the defensive effort, disrupting the Pioneers’ attack all night. In the closing moments, East relied on its poise at the free-throw line to secure the win. Carson Gallion and Cadyn Goodlow combined to hit four clutch free throws down the stretch, sealing the victory and keeping the undefeated season alive. With just one regular-season game remaining, the Olympians will look to complete their perfect run when they face New Albany on Saturday afternoon starting at 12:30 p.m.. Scoring Summary: Keatin Roberts – 17 Carson Gallion – 3 Josiah Kiel – 2 Kam Robertson – 2 Daelyn Diaz – 2 Cadyn Goodlow – 1
