The Columbus East boys and girls swimming and diving teams traveled to Jeffersonville High School on Saturday morning for a dual meet against Hoosier Hills Conference rival, the Jeffersonville Red Devils. The Olympians split the competition, with the boys securing a commanding 103-81 victory while the girls fell short, 129-50. The Olympian boys were led by standout performances from Josh Pendleton and Misha Machavariani. Pendleton showcased his versatility by winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 4.51 seconds and dominating the 500 freestyle in 4:54.54. Machavariani excelled in the 100 butterfly (54.63) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.71), contributing valuable points for East. Keaton Stephenson added to the Olympians' success by claiming the 200 freestyle in 1:51.08, while Gavin Day continued his consistent winning streak in diving with a score of 302.75. Ethan Hall rounded out the individual victories with a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:04.82). The boys team also excelled in relays, sweeping all three events. They won the 200 medley relay in 1:46.72, the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.96, and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:30.46, highlighting the depth of the team. For the Columbus East girls, Connelly Furnish delivered the team's lone victories. Furnish claimed first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:23.40 and followed up with a win in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 59.14. Despite the team's loss, Furnish's strong performances provided a bright spot for the Olympians. The meet demonstrated the strength of the boys team and the resilience of the girls team as they continue their season. Columbus East will look to build on these performances as they prepare for upcoming meets and the Hoosier Hills Conference Championships.
