Columbus East Swimmers and Divers Compete Against Seymour Owls - Day sets boys school diving record

The Columbus East swimming and diving teams faced off against the Seymour Owls on Thursday night in a Hoosier Hills Conference meet at Seymour High School. The Olympians delivered several standout performances, but Seymour came out on top in both the boys' and girls' competitions, winning 97-89 in the boys’ meet and 132-48 in the girls’ meet. For the Columbus East boys, Gavin Day had a record-breaking night, setting a new six-dive school record with a score of 304.20 to win the diving event. In the pool, Josh Pendleton claimed victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.09) and the 500 freestyle (4:55.86), while Misha Machavariani added wins in the 100 butterfly (54.51) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.74). Keaton Stephenson also earned a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.08. The boys’ team rounded out the evening with victories in both the 200 medley relay (1:45.40) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:26.05). On the girls’ side, Connelly Furnish led the Olympians with two first-place finishes. She won the 200 individual medley in 2:26.56 and the 500 freestyle in 5:36.80, showcasing her endurance and versatility. While the Olympians produced several strong individual and relay performances, they ultimately came up short in the overall team scores.
