Columbus, IN – The Columbus East boys and girls swimming and diving teams demonstrated their grit and competitive spirit during Senior Night against Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday. The Olympian boys powered through to a commanding 110.5-68.5 victory over BNL. Senior Keaton Stephenson led the charge with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (22.96) and 100 freestyle (50.29), while Misha Machavariani added triumphs in the 100 butterfly (53.68) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.37). Senior Todd Hundley claimed the 200 individual medley (2:11.96), and Gavin Day delivered a standout performance in diving, scoring 258.30. Freshman Josh Pendleton impressed with victories in the 200 freestyle (1:50.84) and 500 freestyle (4:58.65). The boys’ relay teams also excelled, with Hundley, Machavariani, Pendleton, and Stephenson winning both the 200 medley relay (1:46.07) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.43). The Columbus East girls faced tough competition in a triple-dual meet, falling 113-61 to BNL but defeating Trinity Lutheran 91-23. Connelly Furnish led the way with victories in the 200 individual medley (2:24.94) and 100 butterfly (1:06.46). Ainslee Shaw won the diving event with a score of 155.95, and Cassidy Furnish captured the 500 freestyle (6:14.44). With a strong showing on Senior Night, the Olympians look ahead to building on their momentum as they prepare for upcoming meets.
