The Columbus East Girls Wrestling team showcased their dominance on the mats this past weekend, claiming the championship title at the Warrior Winter Classic. Hosted by the Whiteland Warriors, who are ranked #6 in the latest overall girls wrestling power poll, the tournament proved to be an intense back-and-forth competition. By the end of the day, Columbus East pulled ahead with a string of first-place finishes, sealing the victory with a team score of 257.5 points. Grace McMahon (170A): A dominant force, McMahon won her matches with remarkable speed, including a 1st-place victory over Reagan Fortier (New Palestine) with a pin in just 25 seconds. Monica McMahon (190): Monica’s stellar performance culminated in a 1st-place finish, defeating Alex Brown (North Posey) with a pin in under a minute. Madison Swartzentruber (135): Swartzentruber clinched 1st place with a hard-fought 4-0 decision over Carissa Shadle (Centerville). Taylor Engelking (115B): Engelking captured 1st place, pinning Marli Woods (Whiteland) in 3:14. Other notable performances included: Eden Knight (145): Fought her way to a 3rd-place finish with a commanding 13-0 major decision. Madison Mount (130): Secured 5th place with a decisive pin against Ava Saunders (Owen Valley). Issabel Wakefield (140): Battled through consolation rounds to earn key team points.
