Columbus East Girls Basketball Shows Early Spark in Loss to Bloomington North

The Columbus East girls basketball team started strong in their matchup against Bloomington North on Tuesday night in The Orange Pit. Despite their efforts, the Olympians ultimately fell 71-44. Columbus East jumped out to an early lead, sparked by three-pointers from Ella Anthis, Kimberly Carothers, and Lola Watkins, along with two baskets from Averie Graham. By the final minute of the first quarter, East held a 13-9 advantage and were only down by one point to end the first quarter 14-13. The game’s momentum shifted after Bloomington North went on an 18-2 run, pulling away from the Olympians. Columbus East showed flashes of improvement but couldn’t recover from the deficit. Standout Performances: Kimberly Carothers led Columbus East with 15 points and four rebounds, while Lola Watkins added 10 points. Lucy Ross, recently called up from JV, made an impact with five points and three rebounds. With a limited roster due to injuries, the Olympians have relied on younger players to step up and gain valuable varsity experience. Ross and others demonstrated solid contributions in their extended roles.
