Columbus East Girls Swimming and Diving Opens Season

The Columbus East girls swimming and diving team kicked off their season Saturday at Bloomington North High School. Competing in a quad meet against Bloomington North, Trinity Lutheran, and Linton-Stockton, the Olympians secured a second-place finish with 50 points, trailing only the host Cougars, who tallied 101 points. Trinity Lutheran and Linton-Stockton scored 12 and 5 points, respectively. Highlights from the Meet The Olympians had a strong showing in both individual and relay events, claiming victories and top placements across the board. Cassidy Furnish led the way with a dominant performance in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 2 minutes, 22.04 seconds. Her teammate, Connelly Furnish, added another win for East, capturing the 100-yard breaststroke title with a time of 1:20.89. In addition to her win, Connelly Furnish also placed second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:30.17. East’s divers made their mark as well, with Delaney Rogers earning second place in the diving competition, scoring 134.35 points. Maddie Beyer rounded out the individual runner-up finishes with a second-place showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:30.52). The Olympians capped their day with a strong relay performance, finishing second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:39.73. Looking Ahead The Columbus East girls swimming and diving team looks to build on this early-season momentum as they prepare for their next meet Tuesday, November 19th when they head to New Albany High School to compete in the New Albany Relays.
