Excitement is building at Columbus East as Coach Perry Nash enters his second season leading the boys varsity basketball team. With a new focus on discipline and depth, Nash talks about the team’s leaders, their hard-nosed defensive approach, and the must-win matchups that lie ahead. Can the Olympians take the next step this season? Find out what Coach Nash had to say! Columbus East Boys Basketball Prepares for 2024-2025 Season: Q&A with Head Coach Perry Nash - As the Columbus East Olympians gear up for the 2024-2025 high school basketball season, head coach Perry Nash is eager to build on his first season at the helm. With an upcoming scrimmage on November 23rd and their season opener on November 27th, Nash shared his thoughts in a Q&A session, offering insights into the team’s growth, leadership, and goals for the year. Q: How do you see the team building on last season’s success or learning from challenges? Coach Nash: Last year was all about learning how to compete. We’ll be building on that this year by being disciplined on both sides of the court. That discipline will help us win those close games we came up short in last year. Q: Who do you consider the leaders of the team, and how do they shape the team culture? Coach Nash: Mason Reeves and Danny Coriden will bring leadership in the form of energy and focus. They have an amazing ability to understand the pulse of the team. Carter Patterson and Keaton Lawson are also very vocal for us on the floor and bring that competitive spirit every night. Q: What are the biggest improvements the team has made in the offseason? Coach Nash: The biggest improvement we’ve made is our depth. I feel we have multiple guys who can help us win on a night-in, night-out basis. Q: What type of defensive/offensive system will the team focus on this year? Coach Nash: Defensively, we’ll continue our hard-nosed man-to-man defense that worked well last year. Offensively, we want to push the ball earlier in possessions. We’ll also focus on moving and sharing the ball to help each other get open. Q: Which conference games or tournaments are circled as must-win matchups? Coach Nash: First and foremost, we want to be playing our best basketball during sectional. We’re excited to be hosting the sectional this year at Columbus East. The East-North game is always exciting, but for us to succeed, we need to treat every night like it’s an important game. Q: How do you plan to integrate younger players into the team this season? Coach Nash: We believe in a “best players play” mentality. We have some good young talent, and it will come down to who competes every day. We’ve got players who aren’t afraid of putting in the extra work to be successful. Q: What will success look like for this team by the end of the season? Coach Nash: We need to build on last year’s wins, compete every night, and stay disciplined every game, quarter, and possession. If we do that, success will take care of itself. As the Olympians look ahead to their season, Coach Nash’s message is clear: disciplined play, strong leadership, and competitive fire will drive Columbus East forward. With key conference games and hosting sectional play at home, the 2024-2025 season promises to be an exciting one for the Olympians. Thank you, Coach Nash, for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions! Best of luck this season!
