Olympians Race to 5th Place Finish, Advance to Regionals with Personal Bests

The Columbus East boys cross-country team raced their way to an impressive 5th place finish at the 2024 IHSAA Boys Cross-Country Sectional at Eagle Park, hosted by Brown County High School. The Olympians clocked a team time of 1:28:58, earning a spot in next weekend's IHSAA Regional in Evansville. The regional will take place on Saturday, October 26th, at the Angel Mounds cross-country course, with the race set to begin at 11:15 a.m. CT, hosted by Evansville Mater Dei. Several Olympian runners set personal records (PRs) in a strong showing. Jackson Brooks led the way with a 21st place finish in 17:26, followed by Elijah Clore, who came in 27th with a PR of 17:31. Norman Dickson crossed the line in 29th place with a time of 17:38, and Austin Menefee also set a new PR, finishing 32nd at 17:53. Rounding out the scoring runners were Lorren Westfield (18:28, 44th place, PR) and Chance Knapp (18:32, 49th place, PR). Maddox Hult capped off the day with a personal best of 19:04, finishing in 58th place. With a five-man average of 17:47, the Olympians set a new team PR and now shift their focus to the regional round, where they'll look to continue their momentum.
