The Columbus East girls soccer team battled in their IHSAA Sectional Semifinal match on Thursday night at the BCSC Soccer Complex. Facing Franklin Community High, the Olympians held strong defensively during the first half, keeping the Grizzly Cubs off the scoreboard thanks to an outstanding effort by goalkeeper Emma Christie. Christie made a series of remarkable saves, holding Franklin to zero goals at halftime. Despite their best efforts, Franklin’s offense found its rhythm in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to secure a 5-0 victory. Though the loss ended Columbus East’s season with a 2-14-1 record, the team remains optimistic about the future. Every player who took the field for the Olympians in the semifinal is an underclassman, giving them a solid foundation for growth next year. With a full roster returning, the team looks forward to building on this season’s experiences and working toward a successful 2025 campaign. Despite the score line, Columbus East continued to battle until the final buzzer, with their young squad gaining valuable experience to carry forward. Game Stats: Saves: Emma Christie – 10 saves Cara Veach – 2 saves
