Columbus East Boys Soccer Defeats Jeffersonville 5-0 to Secure Hoosier Hills Conference Title

The Columbus East boys soccer team traveled to Jeffersonville High School with a clear mission: to win their final Hoosier Hills Conference (HHC) match and secure at least second place in the standings. A victory over the Red Devils would ensure a strong finish for first-year head coach Sam LaVelle and his Olympians. East did just that, dominating Jeffersonville 5-0. However, a surprising turn of events handed the Olympians an even greater prize. Floyd Central, the conference leader, needed a win against Bedford North-Lawrence (BNL) to claim the outright title, but they ended up tying their match. This result allowed Columbus East, with a 5-1 conference record, to take sole possession of the 2024 HHC crown. Winning the conference championship is a major milestone for LaVelle and his squad, setting the stage for the IHSAA Sectional, which starts on Monday, October 7th. The Olympians face a challenging opening round against the state’s top-ranked team, the Center Grove Trojans, but we know the Olympians will give it their all, no matter the odds. The match will take place on Monday, October 7th starting at 6 p.m. @ Center Grove H.S.
