Columbus East Dominates Jennings County in 62-7 Victory

Columbus East football delivered a commanding performance Friday night, overwhelming Jennings County with a 62-7 victory in Hoosier Hills Conference action. The Olympians capitalized on four first-half turnovers, building a 42-0 lead by halftime and cruising to their 27th consecutive win over the Panthers. With this win, the O's also move to 2-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference. The Olympians also celebrated a successful Bartholomew County Youth Football Night and give a BIG THANK YOU to all of the youth players and coaches who attended Friday nights game! We also had a chance to honor the Columbus East Class of 1974, our first graduating in school history. Thanks Class of 74! Kyson Villarreal connected with Keaton Lawson for two touchdowns in the first half, while Robert Young added a defensive score with a 21-yard interception return. East's ground game also shined, with Thomas Houpey, JD Rotert, and freshman James Scruggs all finding the end zone. Scruggs, who took over at quarterback in the second half, ran for a 40-yard touchdown and later threw a 16-yard strike to Cam Herron. Freshman Keatin Roberts capped the scoring with a 26-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Villarreal completed 7 of 10 passes for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Houpey led the rushing attack with 77 yards on eight carries. Herron caught two passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Kicker Christian Guerra went 8-for-9 on extra points.
