Columbus East Shows Grit and Growth in Battle Against Providence

The Columbus East girls volleyball team demonstrated noticeable improvement and determination on Thursday night in the Orange Pit, putting up a strong fight in a 25-15, 25-20, 25-16 defeat to the Providence Pioneers. The Pioneers, a volleyball state power, have won the 3A IHSAA state volleyball championships the past two years Despite the final score, the Olympians showed hustle and resilience, especially in a closely contested second set, signaling how far they’ve come since the start of the season. Kimberly Carothers led the charge for East with six kills and an ace, while Krea Martin facilitated the offense with 14 assists and added an ace of her own. Lauren Smith anchored the defense with 16 digs, and Lilah Klei contributed a service ace. Anika Jenkins made an impact at the net with four kills, and Jillian Chapple chipped in three assists. Defensively, Carothers and Chloe Gill each notched 12 digs, showcasing the Olympians’ commitment to staying in every rally. The O's will become road warriors for their next three matches with their first stop being at Hoosier Hills Conference opponent, Bedford North-Lawrence, Tuesday, September 17th, starting at 7 p.m.
